need to install win xp, I have windows me at the moment.
Looked it up and someone said you don't have to buy it
just go to winxp "upgrade advisor". I can't find that
anywhere. I want to get a DVD burner for my picture taking
which is getting out of hand. Company said I have to
have Windows XP which I don't have for the DVD burner.
What other requirements do I have to have. I have a small
computer, Gateway Essential 900c don't use any fancy
speed, don't need it for graphics, I just want to be able
to put pictures on a DVD burner and also keep my
computer from crashing as it has been doing lately. Any
help you can give me would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi,

1) You will have to buy Windows XP but you may qualify to buy the less expensive Upgrade Version.
More information can be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/howtobuy/default.asp

2) DVD burning is not supported natively in Windows XP. You will have to buy third-party software to
be able to burn DVDs.

Yeah, funny that... Is he on commision..?

You dont NEED XP to use a DVD burner, I think DVD burning capabilities came
in from 98 onwards...

All you need are the right drivers for the burner... and the best place to
look is the installation disk that came with it or the web site of the
company that produced the drive itself...

Best thing to do, as far as Im concerned, is look at the minimum spec for
the drive, If it dont say win-xp, then dont get win-xp, UNLESS you want
it...

Considering what you say you use the PC for... ie... nothing really except
burning when you get a drive... you need to consider the resorces youd lose
by "up-gradin"... ie... les memory, less HD space for all but basic
installs... any outstanding bugs that may have been fixed in the earlier
ME...

Dont fix it if it aint broke... just my opinion...
