Anyone out there using windvd recorder and a AIW on xp
Yes...I just installed it on my machine earlier today. I suspect that
MMC is going to start gathering figurative dust. The great thing about
WinDVD Recorder, is that you can burn DVD's on the fly. So if I want to
record a TV program while I watch another one on the family television
that just happens to be running simultaneously, I simply record it on
the fly and it's ready for viewing immediately after the program ends.
It beats spending 45 minutes on authoring and burning for a once time
only viewing!
Overall picture quality is generally superior to that of MMC, although
apparently, I don't have enough CPU to set motion estimation any higher
than 2 on both vertical and horizontal, and it does show in the
occasional jerky movement of the capture. However, as far as the
picture quality itself, I can see no point in capturing lossless and
then transcoding with something like TempgEnc...it as good or better.
I think that because WinDVD de-interlaces, it's probably a bit more CPU
intensive. With MMC, I can set it to encode interlaced, and set the
motion estimation setting at 100% for perfect movement.
So for one time viewing, I'll use WinDVD Recorder; but for archiving,
it'll be MMC. While MMC's picture is slightly more noisy, the
occasional jerkiness with WinDVD is distracting. I'm going to try
playing with a custom profile to see if I can get rid of the artifact.
Are you having problems making it work?
