windowxp update problem

I have a problem with the win xp update. when the update
window dialog comes up it doesn't do anything it just
hangs. it can do this all day and when I "X" it out, it
says if I leave this page my update won't be complete.
but the status bar on the update dialog shows no download.

I need some critical updates, but can't get them on my
PC. Anyone know how to Solve?

This may or may not be related, but when on Internet
Explorer. I open another window within a window and the
Second window that pops up just shows the outline and no
new webpage is brought up
 
yes that is how I got to that update page. Everything
works fine until I get the update dialog window up and
then it doesn't do anything.
 
I don't know what you mean by dialog window. Are you staying on line? Are you
using AOL?

i am testing the sp2
One problem I found afterwards was getting the Windows updates site to work.
In order to resolve the problem, I had to have the following 3 services set
to "automatic":

Automatic Updates

Background Intelligence Transfer Service

Error Reporting Service
