WindowsXp Dark Screen

Hello,
I've just installed and run my 3rd scan of the Anti-
spyware Beta version and I noticed that when I turned my
computer on tonight, computer my screen is very dark. I'm
running windows xp home. Any ideas as to how to combat
this?
 
LCD or CRT?

Checked your brightness controls?

Checked you cables?

How old is your monitor?

Hello John,
I guess this is a CRT monitor which came with the Dell
Pentium IV and is aprox.3 years old. I've never had any
problems with until installin this Beta Softwear. All the
cables are fine. Brightness setting is at 30 and
increasing the digits doesn't help much. Generally, my
screen looks REAL DINGY, rather than the vividness it
had. I checked the control panel for monitar settings and
couldn't see anything changed there. Do you think I
should run the XP troubleshooter?

Have you tried another monitor, if possible, or tried that monitor on
another computer? Even a laptop with video output?

Hello again,
John this is the only computer I have. I did do a disk
clean-up, disk defrag a scan disk & repair bad sectors
and just now a system restore. No change. I'm considering
un-installing this beta softwear, just to see. It has
removed 7 peices of junk from the system. Could this be a
residule of removing garbage?
 
If you were missing icons or the screen resolution was different or
something cosmetic, I would say it could be blamed on something that was
removed by MSAS that affects your screen appearance, but a dark screen is a
bad sign - it is either the video card or the monitor.

Well, I reversed the system restore, and even uninstalled
the Beta Softwear. Did a selected restore point to the
day before installation, still no change except that the
Beta Softwear somehow reappeared.!! Do you think I sould
reinstall my Video Card??
 
with a tube monitor, I think a circuit has gone bad - time for a new one I'm
afraid. Need another monitor from somewhere to test the machine for sure
though.

What does the monitor do in Safe Mode?

Hello,

Would you be shocked if I told you that my screen is now
back to NORMAL, bright & vivid? It's true! I didn't do
anything more since waiting to hear your reply. I left it
running and set it aside for awhile and just now came
back to it. Something is flaky.
 
I'm glad it is now working! I'm still afraid that something mechanical is
not right.

If you checked your cables then something is starting to go bad.
