I have a new Dell with WindowsXP Home Edition. Can I
install the software programs from my Windows 98 CD?
Just the Powerpoint, Excel, and Word? I tried once and
it asked me to go to dos setup. I do not know how to do
that either.
Thanks

Hello Suzelle,
Hold the train, a bit. What is the title of that "Windows 98 CD" ? 'Cause PowerPoint, Excel, Word do not come bundled with 'any' Windows. Now, your manufacturer *may* provide software bundles ---- but those come on separate media (CD ).

If you have MS Windows 98 from before, there will not be any apps on that CD.

Obviously, I'm a novice at all this. The CD I have is
just titled Microsoft Windows98 "For distribution with a
new PC only. For product support, contact the
manufacturer of your PC." So does that tell me what
you're saying? If I can't load those s/w programs, how
can I get them on my xp? Or can I?
Thanks,
Suzelle

Suzelle,

MS Office 97 and later will install on Windows XP. Maybe even older
versions, but I'm not certain.

Hello Suzelle,
The CD you describe is the Windows 98 CD, and it does NOT have Word, Excel. or PowerPoint. For those programs, you need to already have them on another set of CDs from Microsoft. If you do not have them, and you want them, you'll have to go buy them.

Take a close look at your new Dell system. Dell usually bundles in some packages like Wordperfect (judging by recent ads) --- though that does not give you PowerPoint or Excel.
