Hi, i have a single user license of WindowsXP.

Initially i installed it on a desktop pc and activated it thru the internet.

But now i am trying to install that WinXP license, on anoter high end PC
(which i have bought recently). But during 'Activation', it is saying that
the KEY is alrady registered (which is true ie my old PC) .... now how do i
deactivate my old registration and re-register it with my new PC???

Is there any way to do this?

Thanx,
PalB

Hi

One copy of XP per machine - that is why you are getting the 'is already registered' message. If you want to install XP on to the other PC, then you will have to buy another copy.

First, XP must be removed from your previous computer.

Second, when running the activation wizard on the new PC, you must choose
the option to activate by phone. You will be given a number to call,
explain that you have a new PC, you've removed XP from your previous
computer and you need to activate on the new system.

Greetings --

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
