WindowsDefender can't get updates.............

After doing a SystemRestore to fix the problems caused by installing and
uninstalling IE7, WD can't update. So I downloaded the files from the MS
website, followed the directions..... and where are they? They didn't go to
WD when I clicked on RUN. Where do they go when you click on run and how do
I get them into WindowsDefender?

After days (and nights) of working on this PC and reading endless websites
and help files, I can't be positive. But I know they went somewhere and it
wasn't into Windows Defender. I just downloaded them again and I know where
they are now. Why wont WD update itself? I have no idea how to get the files
into WD.
