I was given a full version of WindowsXP Professional
Edition and want to install it, is this possible without
somehow totally removing my Windows98?

If the license key has not been activated on another machine, yes, you can
do an upgrade install with the full retail version of XP. Check with whoever
gave you the disk and make sure it is not currently installed on another
machine.

With Windows XP Professional, you can install the software on as many
PCs as you want, it is designed for many connected corprate PCs.

Totally wrong. WinXP Pro can be installed on exactly as many
machines as you have licenses for; one license required per computer.
