There is a new newsgroup on the *Microsoft* newsgroup server:
(msnews.microsoft.com)

microsoft.public.it.windows7

Guess what? The "IT" is not information technology, it's Italian!

Ok, I'm all for supporting alternative languages, but why is *Microsoft*
hosting a Windows7 newsgroup in Italian whereas they will not support a
Windows 7 newsgroup in (the universal language of the web) English??

-bb

p.s. Could it be that they are clueless as regarding usenet?

Support for the Windows 7 Beta is offered under the TechNet forums at:

There were newsgroups in Italian, Japanese, German and other languages for
Vista too. This is not Windows 7 specific.

Yeah, we know... but it does seem funny that the first (only so far) Win7
newsgroup is in Italian...
Ciao!

There are various ways to gag Anglo-speaking customers.
To moderate NGs or not to have them at all...-;)

I don't know much of MS's management structure outside the USA as I
have not dealt directly with them. But, generally foreign entities
operate with some autonomy. So, perhaps the IT subsidiary decided to
"just do it". Or maybe the Pope told them "get that Goddamn Windows 7
newsgroup setup now or I'll go medieval on your ass!.".

That is exactly what the Pope said. He's been known to stay shit like that
before. What a cool dude.

No kidding. That Usenet naming convention has been in use for many
years, now.

p.s. Could it be that they are clueless as regarding usenet?

Looking in a mirror while asking this, perhaps?
