I have tried sending "word "documents from my PC at work (Windows 2000) to my home PC which uses Windows XP. The docs arrive OK but when you open them they appear in a different format and are virtually impossible to work on. Am I doing something wrong or are the two programmes incompatible?

Hi,

What versions of MSWord are you using on the two machines?

2000 or XP makes no difference. The only thing that matters is what Rick
said and that's the MS Word version. If the versions are different you can
save the DOC's to be compatible with the lower version of Word.

When you ask about "the two programmes," I assume you mean
Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Any difference between the two operating systems is irrelevant.
The difference you're seeing is in the two word processing
programs you are using to write and read the files.

If you are writing them with Word at work, you may be reading
them in some program other than Word at home (WordPerfect?
WordPad?). Alternatively it could be just a different version of
Word, but it's unlikely that that would make an extreme
difference.
