After a short time (15 mins) of using windows, I am told the program has an error and needs to be shut down. When I re-load the program I am not able to bring back my work. The autosave seems to have failed too. Any ideas??

What program? This could be hardware issue, drivers or poorly written
program. RAM errors are common, run Memtest86 boot floppy at
http://memtest86.com to test RAM. Run Ad-Aware from
http://lavasoftusa.com to remove malware/scumware background programs that
often cause trouble.
Start>Run msconfig and uncheck unwanted start up items. Have latest BIOS for
motherboard, motherboard chip set and AGP drivers, video card drivers and
latest patch for the program you are running.
