Can someone give me a brief summary of the differences
between Windows 98 and Windows 2000. It has been
suggested that we not go to XP because of compatibility
issues with older software versions. We are currently
running 98. Are there significant differences that we
would see in a business setting?

Thanks for your help.

Chances are that if it won't work on Windows XP, it won't
work on Windows 2000. Those two operating systems are
like Windows 98 and 98SE(very close). There is a huge
beneft in having a Windows2000/XP over Windows98
especially for an IT person. There is so much such as the
Administrative tools, Administrative shares, there is so
much more. The Windows 2000 platform and higher is so
much better because it brings you the stability of Windows
NT, but the media functionality of Windows98. I can
connect to anyones PC and trouble shoot it faster. Do not
have to reboot after making networking changes or
installing software. Can connect to remote registries.
I can deploy software in five minutes using vbs and wsh.
Its well worth it. The world is moving on and it will be
a lot easier to upgrade now. Personally I like 2000 over
XP. I upgrade all 70 computers at my work to 2000, 2 to 3
years ago. The only way to know is to build a test system
yourself. I use to love 98, but I really don't like it
now. It really has no place at a business setting except
for media presentations. Just install a copy on a
computer, dual-boot whatever. The only way to know is by
testing. Also, there are emulation utilities to run old
software. Good Luck
