Hi all,

I am currently looking into replacing OS on the devices
that were basically running Win95 due to support issues.
Is it possible to prep and deploy Win XP embedded image on

Pentium III 133Mhz
64Mb RAM
10Gb HD
SVGA
10-BaseT Ntwrk
Com 1 and 2
LPT 1

Thank you!!

Best Regards,
Eugene

Hi,

There is no problem, for the best performance, I recommended to add virtual
memory because you have enough hard-disk space.
Adding virtual memory :
First method) Standard PC->Settings->System Pagefile
Second method) Advanced Configuration and Power Interface->Settings->System
Pagefile

(I installed the image on wide variety of PentiumII processor with 64MB ram
without any problem.)

Never seen a PIII 133Mhz...
The specs of MS on Win2K (WinNT5.0) are at lease PI-133Mhz with 128 RAM
Off course it will run with 64, but it's better to have more...

WinXP is WinNT5.1 and I can assure you, it will not run better then W2K on the given minimum by MS.

But it's your call, I believe it will work, but don't expect it to perform good...

THank you both for prompt reply. I am currently building
and image and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again
Eugene

In general we reco Pentium class & above so P3 133 MHz
should be fine -- we state this b/c not only of proc
speed but also data latency on PCI bus et al doesn't give
you the perf on older chipsets that you need for solid
performance on an XPe-based system

Sorry, forgot I was on de XPe group...

NP. I actually managed to install full blown Windows XP Pro on this
machine and it runs quite fast, actually no worse then Win95. I used
tap.exe to get a snapshot of the environment and currently battling
hal.dll is missing or corrupt when I try to boot into my XPe image on
the HD.
I have only one disk and I am trying to change boot.ini to point to
another die, i.e \windows to \WindowsXPe but having issues with
hal.dll is missing or corrupt even after I managed to copy it to the
\windowsXPe\system32 dir.
Do you have any ideas what I am missing?

If you need to copy it manually, then you have serious problems with your
image it should be there.

Why don't you repartition disk in two or more partitions.
One for XP, and other for XPE?

It will be better on the long run.
