I just bought a new PC. It has Windows XP which I've
heard has a firewall. Does this mean I am literaly safe
from hackers? How about spyware?

Thanks!

Valerie,
Please review these links:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/windowsxp/firewall.asp The XP Firewall.
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/antivirus.asp Anti-virus FAQ.
http://www.microsoft.com/security/home/ Home Security FAQ.

Spyware would have to be defended against with third-party software.
Some anti-virus vendors are just now beginning to target Spyware but it is believed
that anti-virus software "alone" cannot be fully trusted in protecting against Spyware.

The two leading-edge freeware Spyware scanners, currently available, are:
SpyBot Search & Destroy: http://security.kolla.de
Lavasoft's Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Hope this helps.
