Hello, I am a new user of the ex. home version. I
purchased it because it said I could use it. Now. I have a
computer that I have been using for a couple of years with
windows 98 and I now notice on the product that it says
for distibution only with a new PC. Mine is not new. I
have installed it. But want to set it up with my old icons
and program on task bar and I can't find anything. Can
anyone help me find my stuff without clicking out of
xp ??? Thanks

Felicia,

You purchased an OEM version. They will not do an "upgrade" install. They will only do a clean install, on a partition that does not have an operating system (of course, you can overwrite an existing installation, but not upgrade it).

If I understand your post, you have purchased a OEM copy of XP and installed
it on your computer. OEM versions will do a clean install only, which means
that everything that was on your computer was erased when you did the OEM
install. You have removed all your data and programs. All the data is lost,
and you will have to reinstall your programs from the CD's.

Did you install XP on a different partition on the
hardrive, or did you format the drive and install? If you
formated the drive, all your previous programs are gone.
If you are just wanting XP to look and act much like the
Win98, then you just need to select classic view.
