When starting up Windows XP, it takes along time to complete. Is there a way
to speed up the process.
How much RAM does your computer have and how fast is the CPU? Both of
these have an impact on how long it takes to boot into Windows. RAM,
at least up to 512 mb, is generally a bigger factor than CPU speed but
both are important.
My system with a 1.7 ghz Celeron and 512 mb of RAM boots XP Pro in
less than a minute.
Check out the programs that you have loading at Startup. Use Start -
Run - MSCONFIG and go to the Startup tab. Check out the startup
items listed with
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm to
see what can be safely dispensed with. Be careful - some startup
items are essential for the proper and safe functioning of your
computer.
Next go to the Service tab and compare those items with the
information at
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm to see
which services can be safely disabled or reconfigured.
Good luck
