windows xp

I have a compaq laptop 2100us which I reinstalled the os from compaqs operating system cd because windows was acting up seems like there was aproblem with the video driver and some fonts. Any way the comptuer seems fine now but it seems like ther is to much of the hard drive used about 8 gigs i thought that the reloading would put it back to factory specs which i thought when new the system only used about half as much. Could it be that xp is on ther twice I know I didnt partiton hard drive . Also what is the difference in the os restore disk an the 4 quick restore system recovery disk from compaq should I have used the 4 instead of what I did. Thanks Don
