can anyone tell me if windows xp home edition is supposed
to come with a word program ie: microsoft word or notepad?

Notepad and Wordpad - nothing else.
 
yes, we can't tell you... no, it doesn't.
notepad and WordPad are included but WORD, WORKS and other
"real" full function word processor are not.
To find notepad and WordPad, start/run/all
programs/accessories
