I have Windows XP Home Edition installed on my system, have most updates
installed. My Problem is when i leave it on for about 12 hours and it has not
been used, when I come back it has returned to the look of a new
installation, all my drivers from Windows are at the basic state. If I
reboot it loads everything OK then. only happens when it has been left on for
awhile an not used.
Hope someone can help.

Sounds like either virus, trojan, worm, system file corruption etc.
cockpit damaged something or a combination of any of them.
IMO time for a backup and rebuild, right from deleting the partitions
and recreating them, format, etc. etc..
