We had to have our computer totally restored. When we
had it restored we upgraded to windows xp. I have been
trying to reinstall our McAfee Virus Scan. I am having
problems with that. A support tech from McAfee tried to
help. This is what he was having me do:

Sam Neilson: 1.Please go to start button
2.click there
3.then bring your mouse arrow to the find or search
4.click there
5.the new search window will open where the find for
files and folders will be there
6.set the search zone to MyComputer
7.and to the search for files and folders name text box
type *mcafee*
8.delete all the entries there
9.now close the search window
Sam Neilson: REGISTRY EDITING
please go to start------>run------>type there regedit and
press enter
Sam Neilson: 10.now we need to go into the registry
editer where we will get the things like
Sam Neilson: 10.a. Mycomputer------>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
10.b. Mycomputer------>HKEY_CURRENT_USER
10.c. Mycomputer------>HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
10.d. Mycomputer------>HKEY_USERS
10.e. Mycomputer------>HKEY_CURRENT_CNFIG
10.f. click on "Mycomputer" there
10.g. ***********Please Note This And Follow This to make
your system secure************
10.h. Now please click on the "Registry" menu at the top
left of the window (just below the words "REGISTRY
EDITER" there)
10.i.the menu will come down
10.j.again I am requesting you that please make sure that
the "MyComputer" entry is selected from the registry
editer window
10.k.now from the menu came out, please click on "export
registry file......"
the registry will get saved to a file and you need to
supply the file name there same like file saving
Currently experiencing network delays, one moment
please....
Network connection re-established.
Sam Neilson: Please tell me when the instructions are
done

Brenda Mitchell: when I type in regedit and press enter,
should it bring up another window? because it is not
doing anuthing.
Sam Neilson: yes it should bring up the registry editer
Brenda Mitchell: nothing is happening. I have tried it
several times
Sam Neilson: Please press ok after typing regedit there
Brenda Mitchell: i did
Brenda Mitchell: it popped up then disappeared that time
i can leep trying.
Sam Neilson: Please contact Microsoft for this support or
you need to repair your windows
Sam Neilson: There may be some component of windows
corrupt
Brenda Mitchell: thank you

Nothing was coming up when I typed in regedit. A window

Brenda;
Sounds lile you might have some malware on your system. Download Spybot or
adaware and run it to remove the malware. Then you should be able to
reinstall your anti-virus program. May I suggest that you download and run
the free version of AVG anti-virus. Works as well or better than any others,
and it is free with free updates.

Anti-virus software installation has gotten rather
tricky, since the software has had to react to so many,
many threats to our computers' safety. Recently had an
experience with removing Norton Internet Security before
installing Internet Security 2004. Using Add or Remove
Programs did not get all the files that had to be
removed. Installation of Internet 2004 was corrupted.
Fortunately Symantec has tools for removing all vestiges
of anti-virus and firewall software (2003 and earlier
versions) that took a lot of grief out of the process of
preparing the computer for installation of Internet
Security 2004. Had great success with the removal tools.
Suggest you ask McAfee if they have such tools to remove
their software. Surely would eliminate a lot of the
hassle if they have such tools.
