question let, me know... dont get all angry about it...
im just trying to find a fix..

My compaq says it has an unmountable boot volume... I
tried the startup disks because my kids destroyed my xp
cd, but it still asks for the cd, is there any way around
this?

If you do not have a Windows XP CD, you'll need to go out
and purchase a "Full Version" of Windows XP in the correct
Home or Professional version.

Rick,

You can obtain the Windows XP Startup diskettes from Microsoft. Once creating the 6-set floppy disk, boot into recovery console and run CHDSK /F.

Short of this, request a CD from Compaqs and inquire if there is a patch [SoftPaq, in Compaq terms] available for "Unmountable Boot Volume" issue, coz I've seen one before.
