i don't know where to go, but my computer just restarted
and now it gives me an error saying windows could not
start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
windows\system32\config\system. could that have been
caused by rebooting incorrectly. or was it SP2 problems,
maybe third party software. thank you.

when i get try to restart my computer go to repair, log
onto windows xp professional it comes up with a screen
that says "a problem has been detected and windows has
ben shut down to prevent damage to your computer
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

Re-read the KB Article and follow the directions carefully. If
you are booting from the CD and getting that error, you probably have
defective RAM.
