My teenage daughter disabled my firewall and my antivirus
to speed up downloading music and downloaded several
viruses. So much damage was done that I had to reinstall
Windows XP. I still can't get it to work right so I need
to format and wipe C drive and reinstall everything. How
do I erase all the files on C drive (and any lingering
problems), and reformat it.
Thanks for your help.

If you have a DOS bootdisk with fdisk on it you can boot
to the floppy drive and run fdisk. This will allow you
to delete your primary dos partion or non dos partition.
It depends if you formatted with NTFS or not. NTFS is a
non dos partition. Also, you can boot to your XP CD and
when the option comes up to repair or install a fresh
copy, choose fresh copy. You should receive an option to
delete your partition. Delete it and follow the
instructions to recreate it. You'll then have to format
the partition. That will wipe out any and all files. If
you have a boot sector virus you'll have to create a boot
disk with Norton or some other virus protection software
and clean the boot sector. Those instructions come with
your virus software. I hope that helps.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
