I have Windows XP and now have installed Word 97 on my computer but I have had problems with it working right. It caused pictures that I saved from the Internet to not be displayed in the Folder that I saved them in. I would open the Folder up when saving the next one and they wouldn't be showing. What can be done to fix this problem? Thanks for your help!

Please keep in mind that if you have a folder of JPG images and you are
saving an image file that is a GIF, the folder won't show all the JPG files
if the file type you are saving is a GIF because that is the file type that
it is looking for (or showing). Open Windows Explorer (Flying Windows Key
(at lower left of keyboard)+E), browse to your folder, then see if the files
are there.

Sometimes when you try and save an image from the web it is saved as an HTM
file so when you browse to your folder of JPGs or GIFs they once again won't
be shown because you are saving a different file type.

Hope this makes sense. If not, post back.

I still am having the problem and it doesn't have anything to do with GIF's because I only have JPG when I do get them off the Internet. But I even reformatted my hard drive, only to find out that once I reinstalled Word 97, the problem had returned and was still there. It worked perfectly well up until I did that. Stupid Microsoft, they should make things backwards compatible! Its really annoying and I wish someone could help me out but nobody seems to understand the problem. If anyone does, please help me out, thanks!

I doubt that this has anything to do with Word. Try asking the question in
one of the WindowsXP newsgroups. Perhaps WindowsXP.Photos would be the
best.

Many of the 50,000,000 lines of code in WindowsXP are there solely for the
purpose of maintaining backwards comatibility.

Jeff,

I can appreciate your frustration because knowing the ins and outs of
computers isn't an easy task, but I have to ask:

"What does Word 97 have to do with saving images from the Internet?"

Word 97 works perfectly well with Windows XP. How are you saving your
images? Are you right-clicking on them, selecting "Save picture as",
browsing to a folder, then clicking "Save"? What folder are you putting
them in? have you opened Windows Explorer and browsed to that folder and
looked for these images?

Please be a little more specific and I am sure we will find a simple
solution!
