Tonight my suddenly I am unable to start windows, goes to screen offering
safe, safe with prompt, last good config and normal. Safe gets me to an A:
prompt, but I do not see my hard drive. "normal" takes me to windows
startup which then aborts and reboots. I do not have Windows XP disk as it
was peloaded on my computer at purchase with out disk. I have not yet tried
"sytem restore" but am pessimistic as "last known good configuration" has
not worked. Any other help appreciated.

I would try and boot into safe mode and do a system restore, otherwise you need the xp installation cd and go into the repair mode of the cd and do a chkdsk c: /r /p this will check the entire boot, and check if there are any dirty flags on any sectors of the hard disk... There are other utilities like fixboot and bootcfg that can work for you too. to have a look at these settings just use the /? command to check the strings for these utilities

I am having the same problem but worse. If I start windows - it goes to the Windows page with processing bar (opening windows) and just keeps running forever. I have to shut down then up comes choices for safe mode, etc. I have ran many systsem restores - nothing worked. When I close out of sasfe mode or system restore - it stays on the screen - Windows is shutting down - forever unless I power down.

Ironic thing - it has done this one a month for 3 months - always on a Sunday. This is the first time I could not fix it by using system restore. Help please , someone

I tried "system restore" to no avail. How do I go about getting a disc with
Windows XP as none was provided with my new computer?

Try hitting F10 when it first starts booting. Mine had XP preloaded on it
and has a partition on it where all the files are stored. Hitting F10 should
take you to the recovery console to repair XP.
