I'm doing support on a laptop (post 90 day software
warrenty) with XP Pro. The RAM is running 80-90 used and
when I check the page/swap file settings get the
following message :

"Windows created a temporary paging file on your computer
because of a problem that occured with your paging file
configuration when you started your computer. The total
paging file size for all disks may be somewhat larger
than the size you specified."

When I click ok and look at the virtual memory size it is
showing 0 MB for all drives. I do not know if they have
the Restore CDs or OS CDs to "repair reinstall" the OS.

Any thoughts?

See MVP Alex Nichol's article on XP Virtual Memory at
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm especially the section dealing with
problems.

Good luck

In Control Panel - System - Advanced - Performance; click Settings -
Advanced - Virtual Memory click Change
and review the settings there. Highlight the C drive and have it on
System Managed - then click Set. If you put a page file on a different
partition always leave a notional allocation - say initial 2 max 50 - on
C:. But for the moment have it on C: only

You can use any handy XP retail type CD of he same type (Home/Pro) to
boot to the recovery console - Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk.
Boot the XP CD and, instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair.
Assume any password requested is blank, and TAB over.

There you can give
Attrib -H -R -S C:\pagefile.sys
DEL C:\pagefile.sys
to ensure that there is no remnant, damaged, file left
