Hello!
First, I've been working with computers since the 90s so I know my way
around PCs but this is a tough one.
The laptop from Targa(an AMD Turion64, Ati Xpress 200 chipset), stopped
working and I was forced to format and repartition the harddrive. The problem
is that I can't install Windows XP or Windows 2000 with ACPI enabled.
Whenever I try to do that, it displays this behaviour: The CD boots,
installation of Windows is initialised and starts loading/probing the
drivers. It then suddenly halts to a black screen with a prompt in the upper
left corner.
BUT, if I hit F5 during the preloading of the drivers and I choose
"Standard-PC", the installation continues and allows me to install Windows.
The problem is that way ACPI doesn't work and the CPU-fan is constantly on
and no energy-saving features work correctly.
I KNOW that ACPI worked before the formatting of the harddrive so something
is wrong here.
I upgraded to the latest BIOS but that had no effect.
Is this a known issue? I must have ACPI, without it the laptop is pretty
pointless, don't you agree?
I hope you can help me, thank you in advance!
