Hi all,

A mate of mine, has a mate in Oz.

The prob is, XP is installed on the hdd.

It was running fine the other day, np at all.

BUT the only thing that appears now (after the post screen is the PCI device
listing, it shows verifying DMI Pool Data... and then under this Boot from
CD : ).

I have a snapshot of the screen here with me atm.

There is no CD in the cdrom. The hdd is the bootdisk in the BIOS. The hdd is
the primary ide in the BIOS, and has also been set to AUTO.

And the BIOS also detects this hdd.
..
They've set the default settings, in the BIOS, and they've
also pulled the CMOS battery out, and put it back in.

And they have no idea, why the system wont go beyond
the Boot From CD : prompt, just after the post screen
appears.

Would anyone have any ideas, on how to fix this prob??

Does it sound like a virus or something has hit the hdd??

Any info appreciated

Thanx

If it will boot from CD, have they tried putting in the XP CD and using the
repair option?

When they clear the bios by pulling the batttery, make sure the power cord
is unplugged as well.

Does the repair option work in XP Home?

I thought it only worked in Pro?
