Windows XP won't boot up directly

Hi. We have run Windows XP for several months, but a
glitch developed some time back: it will not boot up
directly. Instead, the CPU clicks a few times, quite
rapidly, and then it hangs up, on a Dell small logo page.
I must click on "delete" to get it to go on and continue
the boot-up process. This isn't a "fatal" error, but just
a pain in the boot... After the "delete" command, the
program goes right along correctly, and takes one to
the "sign in" page. After choosing the sign-in name, one
is transported wonderfully to that person's opening page.
Then, all is well... So, it is in the pre-boot process
that the hang-up shows up. TIA, Gretchen

Hi, Gretchen.
So, it is in the pre-boot process
that the hang-up shows up.

This means that it has nothing to do with Windows, which has not even
started to load at this point. You need to ask Dell about this.

If you have access to the Usenet newsgroups, you might try the peer-to-peer
group for Dell users. There are many knowledgeable people who hang out
there: alt.sys.pc-clone.dell
