I have an IBM Thinkpad T40 with Windows XP installed.
There is a built in Ethernet card (Intel PRO/100 SP) and
I have installed another PCMCIA card Realtek RTL8139(A)
with Surecom Cardbus PCMCIA driver installed. I have also
installed Notes Client in the notebook.
I have tried both Ethernet connections using my Notes
client to access an e-mail from the Domino/400 server to
detach a large file (30MB). The result is very different -
51 seconds for the built-in Ethernet card and 3 minutes
40 seconds for the Realtek RTL8139 PCMCIA card. I have
also tried some other network cards but either get a good
response as the built-in card, or a slow response as the
Realtek card.
Can someone explain why there is such a big difference
between the types of card?
Thanks.
Clarence
