Windows XP Wireless Connectivity

Greg

I am hoping that someone can help me please. I have a
problem with my Windows XP Pro running on a Dell Inspiron
5100 when attempting to use the wireless connection in the
library of my campus. I get a great connection with
almost 95% connectivity but I have a serious problem with
being disconnected and reconnected. My wireless card
(linksys wpc100 v3.0) came with a strength meter that
indicates the link quality and the signal strength. When
I watch the connection, there is no noticible change in
the signal strength before it disconnects. After it
disconnects, it immediately reconnects but I have to
authenticate. It is a huge pain in the ass to try to surf
and keep having these intermittent drops and reconnects.

Someone please keep me from smashing this card into a
thousand pieces, or at least tell me it is the right thing
to do.

If you are not using IEEE 802.1x authentication, uncheck that in the
Wireless Card properties/Authentication tab.
If you have installed WPA update (815485 Overview of the WPA Wireless
Security Update in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=815485) , try removing that
