WINDOWS XP vs WINDOWS 98

I HAVE A COMPAQ WITH XP INSTALLED. XP IS TOO SLOW. I
DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL! IS THERE ANYTHING WRONG IF I
REPLACED THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO WINDOWS 98?
 
If you don't like windows xp and you feel easier using Windows 98 then there
is nothing stopping you removing XP and installing Windows 98 - it's your
machine you can do what you want with it.
You should be aware that Microsoft will be stopping support for Windows 98
(sometime in 2005/6 I think). One other point is, if your machine is still
under manufacturer warranty check with Compaq that removing XP will not
effect the warranty. I wouldn't have thought it would, but it is better to
be safe. After all, I assume that XP was pre-loaded when you purchased the
machine.
 
Instead of reverting to the obsolete Windows 98 O/S, you may wish to
try the following suggestions. Otherwise, you'll have to reformat
your hard drive before reinstalling Windows 98. Did you visit
the support website of the manufacturer of your laptop and download
all the recommended and current Windows XP drivers?

Windows 98 will not un-stick your caps lock.

Seriously........ my guess is that your Compaq is a budget model.
On most budget models you only get 128MB (256 if extremely lucky) of
memory. Add to that budget models have "built in" video that robs
from your memory........ yes, it can make things slow.
128MB- 256MB is insufficient for XP to run as fast and smooth as it
SHOULD.
Memory is cheap, upgrade to 512MB or higher, and see just how fast XP
really is.

On a well outfitted machine, XP is faster running and booting than 98.
It is also a-helluva-lot more stable. Stick with XP........ you won't
be sorry.
