My computer seems to have a virus. Internet exporer
windows open on their own, and now i cant even open IE
without an error box popping up asking if i want to send a
report to microsoft. Other programs run slowr or freeze
the computer. Will reinstalling windows XP clear this
up? If not, are there any simple solutions??

I have Norton ANtiVirus Installed. It quarentined some
viruses, but wont take care of everything. When I turn
the computer on, i have many norton windows that open
warning of a virus. If i leave the computer on, they pop
up all the time, even if i am away from the computer.

I have had the same problem with the same programme. Does
anybody know what the best course of action is?

Neither of you indicated which version of NAV you have. The most recent
version is NAV 2004. Symantec technical support has a document called "What
to do when Norton AntiVirus 2004 detects a threat " (Document

My original question was regarding the win xp operating
system. I asked if reinstalling windows xp would
eliminate any viruses that may currently be on my pc.

If you format your hard drive, all viruses will be erased. There is no
assurance that all viruses will be erased if you reinstall Windows without
reformatting.

Isn't this fun? We can't tell anymore whether the original poster is
continuing the thread or others are jumping in. Let's just all be
(e-mail address removed) and generate a ton of gibberish.

Or perhaps folks could use anonymous email address but put some kind of
pseudonym in for the name??? Then perhaps we could follow threads and
keep our sanity.

are there any articles, basically a simple how-to, on
formatting the hard drive for XP? Also, I looked through
all the software that came with my PC (sony viao) and
found 3 system recovery cds, 2 application recovery cds
and a driver recovery cd, as well as a drivers for
microsoft xp cd. is this everything i need to reformat
the hard drive and reinstall windows xp???

Recovery CDs are specific to the manufacturer. Contact Sony technical
support for assistance with using their recovery CDs.
