Having had to carry out repairs on Windows a couple of times, I have anded up
with a number of redundant sets of user files under the C:\Documents and
Settings folder. How can I identify which files fit with which user? I need
to sort them out so that I can connect the machines to a server, and am
getting error messages about files not having the sharing setting correct.

In Mike <[email protected]> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Under each user you can:

Start
Run
"cmd" without the quotes
Press enter
Type "set"
Press enter
Homepath will tell you the homepath in the documents and settings for that
particular user

I think I've created a similar problem for myself. In setting up our
computer, we created five usernames for the five that would be using the PC.
Then I discovered that a program my wife installed wasn't present when I
logged in; since security isn't really a concern within the house, we
decided to just have a generic username that both my wife and I would use-
but now I'm noticing folders in My documents that LOOk like they've got a
different path (ie., C:documents/Jim and Kathy's documents), but the path is
the same (C:documents/Kathy's documents). One of my imaging software programs
is giving me the error message "File or folder no longer accessible" when I
try to get to some files- so I'm thinking I need to re-do the folder
structure, or something- any advice?
