I am currently running Windows ME on my PC but wish to
upgrade to XP.

When installing XP, will the software automatically formay
my hard-drive or does it just write over the ME version,
therefore keeping all of my work/programs on the computer?

You will have the option to upgrade and or format.

Just be safe a backup all of you important stuff first and do compatibility
test first to see if your hardware and software work with XP

Make sure your system will be a the minimum system requirements level

Get all of the drivers needed before hand.

It will do whichever you prefer. You'll be given the choice.

You can set up a dual boot. XP will be the default and load after a few
seconds if you do nothing. However, the drive can be formatted also if you
want. I think you will need to reinstall your programs to work under xp and
all or most drivers will not migrate to xp from ME or it is my
understanding you can just install in the same windows directory. Not real
familiar since I personally believe a format and fresh install solves a lot
of potential conflicts. To each his own. The most important is to have a
machine, software, and drivers ready for XP installation.
