Is there any way to force the setup program to ignore the upgrade
compatibility results and install anyway. I'm currently getting a message
that says I have a Microsoft fax program installed, though I can find no
sign of one. The only suggestion I was able to find said to remove Office
and try again, which I've done without success. Any other ideas? Thanks -
Scott

Open up My Computer.
Go to Tools, Folder Options.
Put a check in "Show hidden files and folders".
Click on Start, then Run.
Type in: CMD.
Type in: cd\ ,then hit enter
Type in: dir fxsclnt.exe /s
Remember what directory you found the file in.
Type in Exit.
Double click on My Computer.
Right-click on the C: drive and click on Explorer.
Find the directory that housed the fxsclnt.exe.
Delete the file and restart.

Now, you should be able to upgrade to Windows XP Pro.

Thanks for the reply Nicholas but I don't have that file, or a directory
containing anything like that on my machine.

Open up My Computer.
Go to Tools, Folder Options.
Put a check in "Show hidden files and folders".
Click on Start, then Run.
Type in: CMD.
Type in: cd\ ,then hit enter
Type in: dir fxsclnt.exe /s

Delete the file and restart.

Now, you should be able to upgrade to Windows XP Pro.

Hi Scott,

Sorry that is just a internal log, you can ignore it.

To quickly and preciously narrow down this issue, please describe the error
message about "Microsoft fax program installed, though I can find no sign
of one" word by word.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for the response Ivan but I've decided to format and restart with a
clean install of XP rather than an upgrade - Scott
