Windows XP Update

I just installed the windows update thing. I've been holding off on and decided to do it this morning. It finished installing and restarted. When it came back up I had no sound, so I tried playing some songs on Windows Media Player 9, none of them worked they had ! when they tried to play. (and i no they were in the right spot.) and i tried to go check my sound card software, and it didnt even read the soundcard. So I went to Device Manager and now my computer doensnt read any of the stuff on Device Manager

I use Windows XP Home Edition
