windows XP update breaks networking?

Hi,

Anyone else had this? I've just installed the lastest XP updates
(didn't take too much notice of what numbers they were), did a reboot
and now suddenly all networking on that machine has died.

It doesn't receive an IP address from my DHCP server and if I manually
configure the IP info. I still can't ping any of the other machines on
my network, and they can't ping it. The physical network connection
is there - local area conneciton status says it is and lights are on
on router but nothing is working!

Tried doing a system restore to just before the update and then to
last night but no joy.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

thanks,
Ben

Yep, me too on all 3 networks I run. My problem is that I
can see the other computers but I can not share the
internet. If the host computer is the only one on,
everthing is fine. As soon as I turn on another computer,
the internet dies.

Solved this now.. - but not really sure what actually caused the
problem... - or what solved it for that matter...

Ended up booting Linux on the machine.. - and it didn't recognize the
network card... - thought hmmmm... - looks like it might be hardware
after all and not Windows at all... - never had a problem in the past
tho'.

so, was just about to slap a new network card into the machine, but
before doing so I booted Windows again - to remove the old network
card from the device list... - and hey presto! - it just started
working again...

- very bizarre... - had already shut down the machine and rebooted
several times beforehand...

- So can't really explain it.. - may have just been coincidence that
it happened after a XP update reboot..

- thanks for the input anyway..! - and good luck with your similar
problems..

Ben
