- Ensure you are malware free.
- Ensure you have the latest drivers from each hardware
manufacturer.
- Ensure you are not clearing the pagefile when you shutdown.
- Give some system specifications (CPU, memory, hard disk space
(free and total), Windows XP edition and service pack level?)
- Ensure you have fully patched Windows and all other applications
you use.
- CHKDSK and Defragment (in that order.)
- Make sure you are not loading applications you don't need to at
startup (which would have to close at shutdown.)
Some things to help you with the above...
Start button --> RUN
(no "RUN"? Press the "Windows Key" + R on your keyboard)
--> type in:
winver
--> Click OK.
The picture at the top of the window that opens will give you the
general (Operating System name and edition) while the line starting
with the word "version" will give you the rest of the story.
Post _both_ in response to this message verbatim. ;-)

removing whatever they both find completely, you may uninstall
these products,
if you wish.
