Windows XP - tricky Stop error

Hi all, first time poster here so I apologize if I'm in the wrong section or if I'm generally rubbish :o

I switched my PC on on Friday and recieved this blue screen:

When I try Safe Mode in any form I get the same message and can get no further. I haven't made any hardware changes recently, and as far as I know I haven't downloaded anything dodgy.

I really don't know how best to deal with something like this, so any advice would be appreciated!
 
Can you let us know what OS you are running please..Have you tried doing a repair/recover from your OS CD..?
 
I don't know much about the OS beyond XP home edition. It's an inherited PC so I don't know where the OS cd is, which is a major pain.
