windows XP to windows ME

I have been trying without success to connect my desktop
XP to my laptop ME. I have installed Belkin wireless cards
in both and want to do an ad hoc network. I don't need to
share the internet, just the files, folders and printers.
Each computer says that it is connected to the network and
the signal strength is excellent, however, neither sees
the other computer and nothing is being shared. I ran the
Networking Wizard in XP and then ran it in ME with the
disc created on the desktop. How can I get them to talk
and share??????
