Upon startup in Windows XP, the system year resets back to 2002 but the
Monday, day and time remains accurate. How can this be corrected and why is
it happening?

What is the date in the BIOS? F2 or Del key during POST prior to Windows
loading. Suspect CMOS battery may be running out of juice.

The CMOS date setting was year 2002. I changed it to 2005, rebooted and went
into the CMOS setting again and it was back to 2002. Does this mean I have
to replace the CMOS battery?

Yes. Usually the battery is a small "coin" type battery, costing roughly
$3.00 USD. Very easy to replace. Of course you do this with the
computer off and unplugged!
