windows xp system restore

I did a non destructive system restore on my computer and
have lost many of my data files. The instructions during
the restore state that this will not happen.

How do I find if my files are still in the system and how
do I retrieve them.
Also I lost all my email from outlook express. Are they
retrievable.

Just go into restore and undo the restore you made
