I updated XP to service pack 2. I don't have automatic updates turned on nor
do I want them to be turned on. Because of this, everytime I log on I get a
message telling me that my computer may be at risk. Is their anyway to turn
this alert off.

Thank you

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Security Center
and click on: "Change the way Security Center alerts me".
Uncheck "Automatic Updates" and click OK.

I have the same problem on a new install. All posts I have found refer to the
firewall as the problem where it's not. As I use ZoneAlarm Pro. Balloon &
security screen refer to the fact that Automatic Updates are OFF. I do not
want them installed either without my knowledge or selection. However,
Microsoft's security Center is not smart enough to remind us once and allow
turning off the message each time.
But have not found a fix yet for this annoyance.

Hi

If the "Change the Way Security Center Notifies Me" doesn't stick
when you reboot, or you want to disable the Security Center totally,
you can do the following:

Start/Run --> services.msc

Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set
"Startup type" to Disabled.
