Windows XP SP2 problem

I bought this VAIO desktop about a month ago and have been downloading the
recommended updated as the computer notifies me that they are available. A
few days ago I was notified to download XP SP2 which I did. After downloading
it the Internet Explorer would not delete the "history" item. At "INTERNET
OPTIONS" the normal screen appeared and I clicked 'delete cookies, delete
files and delete history' as usual. The screen appeared for each of these
deletions as usual and I clicked them one by one as usual, but a check of
'VIEW' showed that the history was still there. Contacted Sony and deleted
the SP2 as told by them, but now I don't have the benefit of the SP2
security...even though 'history' now will delete.
Any suggestions on what the trouble might be or how to get the SP2 without
compromising the ability to delete 'history'?
 
Ok,Before using and installing SP 2 of Windows XP you should perform these
instructions /from Microsoft/
make sure your configuration meets the min system requirements
make sure your computer your computer is 100 % virus and spyware FREE

Make sure that while installing SP2 ,your antivirus is OFF and your
antispyware is OFF.

When checking your computer for unwanted stuff...
Use your current antivirus software
Use Microsoft Antispyware , LavaSoft Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy
Scan with Kaspersky and Panda online scanners.

When you have SP2 installed,download all the update from
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

If a problem occurs ,you can uninstall SP 2 again.
(You may also leave only SP 1,if you want ,of course)

When you install SP2 ,you may need to re-install some drivers for some
hardware.

Thanks, Panda-man! I will do as you recommended. I have been using the
Ad-aware, AOL, cwshredder and other spyware killers for a very long time, but
with this new computer the Norton software provided simply keeps all of it
out. McAfee didn't and that is why I started deleting the cookies, etc after
each Internet excursion. Deleting seemed to help keep the bad stuff out (as
shown by the spyware killer programs) and I really don't care if it takes a
few more seconds to load a site. A typical Internet surfing would produce 8
instances of Alexa spyware with McAfee after 'deletion' and 3 to 5 more that
were not Alexa without 'deletion'.

The SP2 seemed to slow down the boot time consideraby as well as 'delete my
ability to delete' but I like the idea of having maximum protection. With
250GB on the computer and another 80GB on a portable drive it's not that I
don't have the space, I just don't like the idea that I can't 'clean house'
when I want to. I will download the SP2 one more time and if it gives me the
same trouble I will just uninstall it and stay with the basics.

Well,you can be protected if you have SP 1 only .
The time Windows loads at the start up does not depends on the how much is
your hard-drive.It depends on the processor speed and from the RAM ,and ,of
course,of the settings and the programs that loads at start-up.

512 Mb RAM is very good and enough for Windows XP (especially SP2)
Check how much you have -> right click on My computer ,then Properties and
see the following :

The Serice Pack installed
The processor type and the RAM
Contact a computer store and buy more RAM compatiable RAM,if needed
..Let them install it on your PC.

To be protected ,you need at least SP 1.

I (and many other computer tech guys ) think that Norton is may be ,not very
good or let me say that It isn't the best
It has slow scan engine and does not offer at least Daily updates.It is very
important to always have an updated tools.

It has pop-up blocker and if you goto the Add-in section of the site you can
also dowload an addition - Microsoft Antiphishing .
