Can anyone please explain to me the 10-connection limit on FTP
connections in Windows XP? Is this a system-level limit, or can I get
around it if I run a third-party FTP server (like WS_FTP)?

I read somewhere that XP SP2 restricts half-open connections. I'm not
sure what this means, or how it is related to FTP. Could someone
please explain?

Thanks.

The limit is not related to FTP specifically. You get 10 concurrent
connection in Windows XP Professional (5 in Windows XP Home.) Third party
or otherwise - Windows XP is not a server operating system. ;-)

There are some programs that can change (i.e., hack) a key windows file to
increase this limit.

Here is one that is very easy to use.

If you get a popup about changing a protected windows file, agree that it is
OK.

Finally, you may need to apply this patch every time that Microsoft issues
an update to Internet Explorer, if that patch re-replaces the file that has
been tweaked.
