I just checked my system with Gibson reseach's (www.grc.com) ShieldsUp! and
found out that since installing the SP2 port 1045 has been open. Is this a
common feature and if so why is it left open / opened? If not, does anyone
have any idea what this port could be used for? (Or about software using it
for something?)

How can I report Windows Firewall settings?

Go to Start / Run and type cmd and press OK. This will open a command
prompt window.

Type: netstat -o

Press the ENTER key.

In the results, make a note of the number under PID. Now type the following
command.

tasklist /v /fi "PID eq xxxx"

Where xxxx is the PID number. Include the quotes and spaces.

The results should show you which application is using the port.
