I wasn't doing an install, but was building a "slipstreamed" CD yesterday, and I kept
getting that same message when I tried to slipstream sp1a.

As an experiment, I tried sp1 (without the a), and that worked, then I tried sp1a
again, and that also worked (but I'm not sure what it means :-).

The XP cd content I started with was from a fairly old MSDN DVD of XP Pro
(which might also be related).

Nope - no patches installed yet. I'm trying to get SP1 to
work.

I tried to use SP1 instead of SP1a and that didn't work
either.

Thanks for any help I can get!

Brendan, If you look at the CD face - does it say Windows XP incl Service
Pack 1 (or 1a) ?
You may have a Windows XP CD that already includes SP1.
To test this just go to Windows Update and do a scan and see if SP1 or SP1a
is recommended or just a bunch of Critical Updates.
also do a Start ... Run ... winver - if will say Service Pack 1 if you
already have it applied.

Nope - it isn't service pack 1.

I'm able to update a number of other things on live
update, except for a few updates that prevent access from
outside users and the service pack.

Any thoughts?
