Ms. Grant

I'm getting an error message when I try to install the
Windows XP SP1 Patch. The error says: Windows XP SP1 is
in compatible with this version of Windows. For more
information contact Microsoft. So here I am. Please
help me. Thank you!

Try this:

1. Click Start then Run (you can use the hotkey combination of the Windows
key and the R key)
2. In the Run dialog type: winver
3. Hit Enter.

What is the entire Version number listed there? If it is less than 2600 you
are running a pre-release version of Windows XP. The licence for this is
expired and patching is not supported. If it is not less than 2600 can you
tell me the whole number? Also, are you trying to install from Windows
Update or from a CD or other method?

a) First make sure your licence key is valid. See Microsoft site for
more details.
b) Make sure you have enough disk space free to install it (100Mb+)
c) Make sure your PC meets requirements to run XP
d) Check for incompatible software or s/w that may conflict.
