Hi,
I have a small wireless network consisting of a Windows
XP Professional desktop machine, and a laptop running
Windows XP Home Edition (soon to be Professional). My
problem is this: I want to allow the laptop to access the
files on the desktop machine, but I want to make sure
that nobody can access the laptop through the network. I
tried opening Explorer and "mapping hard drive" and
entering "different user name and password." I then typed
in a valid user name and password for an account on the
desktop machine. It still wouldn't show any of the shares
that I have on the desktop. However, as soon as I create
and login to a profile on the laptop that matches the
profile (user name and password) of the desktop machine,
then I can access all the shares.
What am I not getting here? All I want to do is share
files securely without letting the desktop have access to
the laptop.
One more thing: I can't "publish" the files to a internet
type share or anything. I connect to the internet and I
don't want any security leaks.
Thank you for the help,
